FDA seeks info on new tech helping conduct clinical research
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday announced it’s looking for more information on technologies and innovative ways to more efficiently conduct clinical research. The use of smartphones and tablet devices to collect trial participant data seems to be of particular interest to FDA as it’s requesting more information on the challenges associated with collecting data on trial participants’ own devices, which FDA says may be used to access and respond to study-related questionnaires. Novartis, Qualcomm joint venture backs $6.5M Series A round for Science 37

Apple: ResearchKit is a pipeline for future diagnostic medical apps
This morning, a number of big name medical institutions launched new studies using apple’s ResearchKit, iPhones and, in at least one case, the Apple Watch. New Apple ResearchKit trials focus on epilepsy, autism and skin cancer
Apple launched ResearchKit, its iOS-based platform for clinical research, in March with an initial class of five trials focused on a range of health conditions.
