Verily, the life sciences company owned by Google parent Alphabet, has partnered with Novartis, Sanofi, Otsuka, and Pfizer on a project that aims to speed up clinical trials. The pharma companies will use Verily’s clinical research tools- known as Project Baseline – to try to improve the recruitment of patients into clinical trials and make studies faster and more efficient. UCSD seeks participants for clinical trials involving cannabis
The University of California San Diego School of Medicine’s Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research is seeking participants for a set of clinical trials exploring the effectiveness of cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in treating symptoms of severe autism, anorexia nervosa, essential tremor, and early psychosis. The studies are small, each recruiting fewer than 80 participants. (Candid Chronicle)
Is it ethical to pay clinical trial participants different amounts?

Survey reveals patient perspective on clinical trials

A recent survey of 4,000 patients and care providers examined the patient perspective on clinical trials. The most important motivator to take part in a trial was safety- the clinical trial should do no harm. The annual J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, a health care investment symposium, was held January 7-10, 2019 in San Francisco, with over 9,000 attendees. “Synthethic control” trial design can save time and money
An innovative approach to collecting control group data in clinical trials called “synthetic control arms” means that, instead of collecting data from a newly-recruited control arm, synthetic control arms model those comparators using real-world data that has been previously collected.
