Lucky for us, MedCity moved their annual patient engagement conference, ENGAGE, to San Diego from Washington, D.C., adding to our fall bumper crop of health related conferences. ENGAGE took place at the La Jolla Mariott Hotel on October 18th and 19th. It was a small, but very well planned, conference with many engaging and inspiring speakers.

The conference centered around innovation in patient care and healthcare delivery, especially in the arenas of patient empowerment and geriatric health. The themes for this year’s event were:  High Tech + High Touch; Beyond the Doctor’s Office; and Patient Perspective.

The spirit of the conference was fueled by the need for better collaboration between healthcare professionals and patients, and also for the desire for more personalized and personal treatment. Precision medicine was frequently mentioned as an area of interest.

The presence of San Diego was not lacking at this conference. Paul Sisson from the San Diego Union Tribune; Susan Stone from Sharp Coronado Hospital;  Dr. Ted Chan from University of California, San Diego’s Department of Health Sciences; David Inns, CEO of GreatCall, Inc.; and representatives from companies such as Dexcom and Humana made their appearance as speakers.
